Uruguay Destination Wedding | Fiorella & Marco
Fiorella and Marco didn’t want a traditional wedding so they planned their own kind of “non-wedding” celebration in Uruguay. Their ceremony was unique and emotional with friends and family taking part. Fiorella and Marco, thank you for the amazing opportunity to come to Uruguay and photograph the celebration of your love, it was an amazing experience I will forever hold in my heart.
The following was beautifully written by Marco:
After seven years together in Canada, first in Edmonton then in Ottawa, we had developed a happy and committed relationship. We lived and renewed that commitment every day and in that sense we felt no need to get married. And certainly no need for any authority figure to validate the bond between us. Still, in all that time our families had not met and the people we loved seemed to be in two different worlds: most of Fiorella’s family and many of her dearest friends are in Uruguay, where she was born and lived until 2012. About a year ago while we were visiting Uruguay we suddenly thought, “What if we had a party here!?”. Before we knew it we were planning a non-wedding, as we called it. As it came together over the course of the year, the celebration grew and at times we called it a “wedding,” other times a “non-wedding,” or our new favourite: “pagan union.” Whatever you call it, it was wonderful. Friends came from far and wide, crossing continents to be there, and our families met one another for the first time. Marco’s family got to see a new part of the world, Fiorella’s home. There was love, there was laughter, there was rice, there was dancing, there was wisdom… and there was beef. Lots of beef. It was a unique and life-giving experience with many of the people we love most in the world. We will never forget it.
